Review - The Vision by Jessica Sorensen

I was over the moon when Nicholas was killed off that half Fae, half Forseer really drove me insane, he always seemed to be in the way of Gemma and Alex.

An the start of The Vision Gemma is trapped in a cabin by Stephen and she escapes and she gets sucked into a vision meets her father, he is trapped in the Room of Forbidden which is a place inside his head. While she is there he gives her some strange instructions on how to stop the world from ending and he gives her a crystal ball with a star inside it (not a real star) which she must use to correct a vision he changed but he doesn't tell her how to do it.

Alex and Gemma find out that the star was split and that the buzzing electricity they both feel is because they both have half of the star in them and to help save the world they must keep away from each other in order to keep the stars energy alive.

There a fair few near death experiences in The Vision and Gemma some how survives them all. Alex and Gemma relationship seems to grow even more and how there relationship changes. Gemma grew up in this book and learns a lot more about her powers and she finally becomes a Keeper and puts Alex in his place.and began to take charge a little more and make her own decisions. Alex doesn't like this, he realists that he can't protect her anymore like he wants to and in the end he leaves Gemma to find a way to save her

Review - The Underworld by Jessica Sorensen

But finding out the truth is hard, especially since Gemma doesn’t know who she can trust. There may be only one person who Gemma can turn to for answers, but that means having to go to the one place no one wants to go—The Underworld.

The Underworld is the sequel to The Fallen Star and it was just as good as the first one if not better normally for me the second book doesn't really live up to the first book or the expectations I had for it but this one totally did.

The action started right away and the cliff hanger from the first book was answered. The characters are well written and you can't help but fall in love with them. The book started off with all the same characters that we finished with in book one.

Stephan tried to wipe Gemma's memory at the end of book one but for some reason it failed, and now Gemma doesn't know who to trust or who to believe, all she knows is that she needs to find her mother because Gemma know's her mother will have all the answers that she will need and Gemma will do just about anything to get her back. Needing to find out what Stephan's plan is Gemma, Alex & Laylan head on a mission to the underworld, so Gemma can try and save her mother from the Water Fae and the Queen of the Fae but before she can do this she has to be able to control her visions and get the right crystal so she can travel there back from the one place no-one escapes from... The Underworld if they get stuck down there they become the Queens prisoner.

You could never tell what Sorensen was going to throw at you next so I spent most of my time in anticipation wanting to know what happened on the next page.

With this book you get to learn more about Alex and fall in love with him even more as we get to see a sort of sensitive side to him and see that he can be nice and not just an annoying pain in the backside.

Bookcases

So I have been trying to find bookcases that were cheap enough to buy that had a lot of room on them for my books because my books were piled up all around the house and in boxes under the bed.

My awesome cousin Cazz from Loaded Shelves found this for me. Not to expensive and it has plenty of room to put all my books on and because I have a lot of books I bought 2 of them.

Review - The Fallen Star by Jessica Sorensen

And when she's around Alex, the gorgeous new guy at school, she can feel electricity that makes her skin buzz. Not to mention the monsters that haunt her nightmares have crossed over into real-life. But with Alex seeming to hate her and secrets popping up everywhere, Gemma's life is turning into a chaotic mess. Things that shouldn't be real suddenly seem to exist. And as her world falls apart, figuring out the secrets of her past becomes a matter of life and death.

I had been wanting to read this book for just over a year because I had heard good reviews for it, so I bought the whole series for my kindle. My mum, my sister and my cousin  had already read it before me so I decided that now would be the time to read the series so that when there talking about it I knew what they were talking about and so it didn't spoil it for me when I finally read it (I made my mum and sister promise not to talk about the book in front of me or until I had read them) they all said they were okay but they didn't get into the book until around 20/30% of the way into it but I was hooked from the start. 

The pace is pretty slow going at the start and the plot has been done a thousand times before - shy girl meets cute boy - but Sorensen put her own amazing spin on it which I didn't see coming. Obviously I knew the book was about a fallen star as the book title gives it away but who knew that the fallen star would be inside a person, a star that can save the world.

There is a lot of tension between Alex and Gemma from the time they first meet to the end of the book and it seems like Alex and his sister Aislin know an awful lot about Gemma even though they had never met before or so she thinks, there are plenty of cliff hangers throughout the book which I love because it keeps me reading. There is plenty of adventure and it is packed full of interesting new characters Forseers, Death Walkers, Keepers etc. and the further into the book you go the more there is to learn about Gemma, Alex and all the other characters in the book and they important roles they play in Gemma's life.

Not long after meeting Alex and Aislin we meet Laylen a nice guy who used to be a Keeper like Alex but he is now a Vampire/Keeper. Laylen shares with Gemma some information on her life, who she is, who her mother is and Gemma finds that he is the only one that she can trust to tell her the truth.

Gemma has a recurring dream of the strange man with the scar on his face telling monsters - which we later find out are Death Walkers - to slay her, barely escaping the dream when she wakes, only to find that the monsters are in fact real along with the man with the scar, but you will have to read it to find out who it is.

I read the book in 2/3 days and the cliffhanger we're left with is huge and it left me wanting to read The underworld right away.

Review - The Memory Coder by Jessica Brody

The Memory Coder is a free short story on Tor.com (link above so you can read it) it is set in the Unremembered world and it gives you information into the biotech company's memory removal and implanted memories.

If you want to know a little about the world before you read the book then you should read it first. I recommend you read it after the book because it would make more sense. I had already read Unremembered when I read this so I enjoyed it because I knew what it was about and it was nice knowing about how the memory extraction and restoration happened instead of just knowing that the biotech did it.

While reading the short story I was trying to figure out if Zen was the coder who got his memory erased and when that was answered I thought maybe the coder who erased the coders memory was Zen but I guess we will never find out the answer to this (unless more is revealed in book 2).

If you enjoyed Unremembered then you should definitely read The Memory Coder

I am a huge fan of Jessica Brody's work, so when a chance came up to win an ARC of Unremembered I jumped at the chance and entered the giveaway everyday and I was lucky enough to be one of 5 winners.

I actually read Unremembered in January when my ARC turned up and it was amazing it only took me 2 days to read and for them 2 days I was up till silly O'Clock reading (and I got to miss a lecture

because I slept through my alarm).

I love the way Jessica took a news story about a sole survivor of a plane crash and put her own spin on it and turn it into an amazing book. I am trying not to give away any spoilers because that will just ruin the book for anyone so I am going to keep this review short.

The first few chapters of the book are all about trying to discover who the girl floating among a plane wreck is, she has no injuries and no memory of who she is. There is little known about the girl, there's no DNA records, no finger print records in any database and no one knows why she was on the plane in the first place and we don't get to find out the answers to any of these until near the end of the book.

Then there's the mystery guy Zen who says he knows Seraphina but she doesn't remember him even though she feels a pull towards him. He knows things about Seraphina that other people don't know about her which just confuses her even more and when the two get together Seraphina gets flashbacks of the two of them - and much more - so we can see more about them both together as a couple and more about Seraphina and some of the unanswered questions get answered.

Seraphina is awesome and because she can't remember anything it leaves the reader guessing as to who she is and where she is from and Zen is a great character but other than the flashbacks we don't really know much about him other than what his parents do. I also like Cody because what geeky teenager who hates 'perfect' girls will do what he did for a girl who is 'perfect'?

This is the first sci-fi book that I have read and it was full of action, twists and turns and one shocking part of the story that I did not see coming and the ending was a big WOW and I didn't see it coming.

Unremembered would have got 5 stars from me but Jessica ended it on a cliffhanger and I hate cliffhangers.

This weeks Top 10 Tuesday is going to be a little different.
The topic is Top 10 things I love and hate about books, but instead of listing 10 things I like and 10 things I hate about books I will list 5 of each so that I have 10.

1. Cover Art
This is a good and bad thing for me. A lot of the time I buy a book because the cover looks amazing but when it comes down to reading the book it is really rubbish.

2. Deceiving Blurbs
This is kind of the same as number 1 because I always read the blurb before buying a book (unless it is part of a series then I just buy it) and sometimes the blurb makes the book sound amazing and it turns out rubbish and sometimes the blurb sounds okay but when you have read the book it turns out amazing.

3. Imagery
I love books that have brilliant description in them because I like to be able to see in my head what the characters are doing while I'm reading.

4. Holding my attention
I like it when a book grips me in the first chapter or two, if it doesn't keep my attention I get bored and it takes me longer to read it.

5. Series Numbers
I hate not knowing if a book is a part of a series before I buy it and what number in the series it is. This is annoying to huge reader like me because I have to go out and find book 1 and possibly book 2 before I can read the one I just bought. I have to do this a lot and sometimes I start reading something else before I am able to get back round to reading the new book.

6. Gripping
I love it when I have a book that I can't put down and end staying up till stupid o'clock reading because it's that good.

7. Conflict
I like to be able to love/hate a character because they have done something that deserves being hated for (eg. Damen being nice in the Immortal series which makes you fall in love with him, then him changing because of Roman so you end up hating him)

8. Believable Characters
I like to read books that have believable characters in them, if what a character does isn't believable such as having super strength in a chapter or 2 but the rest of the book they are a normal regular person then to me that isn't a believable character

9. Plots
I like a book that isn't just focused on the one plot it has to have lots of different things going on as well but has to relate back to the main plot/theme of the story.

10. Cliff-Hangers
I hate them because I hate having to wait for the next book to see what happens (Here's looking at you Jenna, Jessica and Alyson haha)

Sneak Peak

Okay so I got the Unforgotten sneak peak yesterday and so far I have managed to resist reading it for one reason and one reason only. If I read it I know I have to wait a whole 12 months before I can read the whole book which will kill me because it almost killed me having to wait for the actual book to be released after reading the 5 chapter sampler and just like having to wait for any book that ends with a cliff-hanger (FYI I hate cliff hangers).

I really want to read the sneak peak because anyone who had read the book will know it ends on a BIG cliff hanger and I want to know what happens but like I said above I will have to wait 12 months before I can read the rest of the book and I don't know if I can wait that long haha.

When I finished reading the book I am currently reading tonight if I still really want to read it then I will read it if not I might try and wait a while before reading it.

Review - Love, Aubrey by Suzanne LaFleur

Aubrey has suffered an unbelievable loss, and goes to live with her grandmother in Vermont in order to heal. Readers will fall in love with Aubrey from page one, and hold their breath until the very end, when she has to make one of the biggest decisions of her life.

The book focuses on eleven year old Aubrey, who recently lost her father and younger sister, Savannah, in a car accident and now her mum whose grief stricken has abandoned her.

Aubrey decides that it is best to ignore the phone because she didn’t want people to be aware that her mother had left and put a sign on the front door saying that they were away. One afternoon there was a repeated ringing of the doorbell and when Aubrey finally opens the door, she is greeted by her grandmother standing on the porch, her grandmother is then aware of her daughter’s abandonment and Aubrey’s fragile emotional state, Aubrey’s grandmother takes her to Vermont to provide Aubrey with the stability she needs.

Aubrey is resistant to leave her home in Virginia and move up to Vermont with her grandma they ride the train from Virginia to the grandmother’s house in Vermont. Aubrey recalls the times she used to visits on holidays, and feel as though it is strange to be moving in with her grandmother, but she is happy to have someone looking after her again.

Even though Aubrey doesn't want to leave her home in Virginia and move to Vermont it’s the move that helps Aubrey to begin her journey of dealing with not just the loss of her father and sister, but with her mother abandonment and eventually Aubrey opens up to her grandmother and they work to amend the huge changes in both their lives. Even with grandmother’s care, a her new friend living next door, and a helpful counsellor at her new school, Aubrey finds the most relief when she writes letters to the loved ones now missing from her life. There are happy moments of the book filled with the friends Aubrey meets, her new school and more. 

LOVE, AUBREY is the first novel by Suzanne LaFleur and it is about getting freed from the terrible times in your life and moving forward even if it's agonizing. The story is filled with emotion. The heart-wrenching sorrow that Aubrey experiences as old the memories begin to resurface are sure to bring tears to the eyes.

The reason I gave this 2 stars was because I couldn't really get into the book but I kept going and read the whole thing.
