My Review: Once again Ember finds herself solving a mystery; this one is ‘the mystery of the missing animals’. All the animals that seem to go missing are valuable pets.

          I love Ember and Mel’s little chit-chats and how well they get along after only knowing each other for a short time.

          As well as trying to solve a mystery Ember is helping her Aunt Becky and the Mayor with their towns Christmas dinner and building her budding relationship with the sexy Nathan.

          This story nearly had me crying because while solving the mystery Ember finds out how her father died and who did it and it all started with the grumpy old vet assistant bringing in her poorly cat.

Once again this story will have you flipping pages so you can find out who the culprit is. I never suspected the culprit but this time I was closer than in the last two books to getting it right.

All I can say is Tara bring on book 4.

My Review: I was given this book and the series for an honest review by a new to me author and I have to say for the first in the series it was great and I could not wait to start book two, I was drawn in right from the prologue.

          My favourite character is Foley a Dark Fairy and the main character Narah’s best friend. I think she’s my favourite because she is sassy and a fairy – I love fairies.

          The story flow’s very well and in parts I felt sad because of the things that happened but happy when it works out.

          There are two other characters Damari who is a werewolf like Narah and Kyrell who’s a Reaper. Each of the characters has a unique ability and personality so it is great when the characters all team up.

          The four characters team up to help Narah’s pack The Hollow Wolves who have been taken, held prisoner and experimented on to become very powerful wolves. There is plenty of action and for four characters who have just teamed up they work very well together and you can feel the chemistry between Narah and Damari just ooze off the page and Foley’s flirting with Kyrell is just amusing.

          Once starting the story it was so hard to put down, I am glad that Ms Duke had given me the entire series to review. I look forward to reading any and all of Ms Dukes upcoming series.

          This is a book that I defiantly will recommend to anyone who loves to read about wolves or just loves fantasy stories.

          I love reading Alice’s stories and this one is darker than all her others and I loved every minute of it and I could not put it down.

          Xavier is a rich guy who attends a Halloween party just to pick up a girl to spend Halloween with and that girl ends up being a curator named Sarah Donaldson.

          The two end up spending the night together which might be something she later may regret as Xavier is evil and after doing what he does to Sarah he just leave’s with no chance of making it home.

My Review: The fifth instalment of this series starts off with Harry at the Dursley’s upset that he has not heard from his friends and not hearing anything about Lord Voldemort return on the Muggle news.

          Harry tries to listen to the Muggle news for information on Voldemort’s return but there are no news reports about it which frustrates Harry. Harry goes for a walk and sees his bully of a cousin with his friends but on their way home they are attacked by dementors and he has to use magic to get rid of them and is then summoned for a hearing for using underage magic.

          Harry learns that his friends have been staying at Sirius’ family home with Sirius who with Professor Lupin, Snape, Mad-eye Mr and Mrs Weasley, Hagrid and Tonks has been helping Dumbledore create a new Order of the Phoenix, which is to recruit people to their side to fight Voldemort when the time comes.

          Sirius tells Harry why they have all been evasive in their owls and a bit about the Order but Mrs Weasley does not want Harry to worry about the Order she wants him to focus on his school which is hard.

          Harry doesn’t want to go back to Hogwarts but while he is there they get a new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher (if you can call her that). No one is happy with Professor Umbridge as she does not teach the students any Defensive spells and to top it all off Dumbledore is ignoring Harry.

          Hermione has an idea that Harry should teach students Defence Against the Dark Arts spells so they start a secret club which they call the D.A – Dumbledore’s Army.

          These D.A meeting are the only reason that Harry stays at Hogwarts, the new teacher is horrible, he keeps having bad dreams, the first one about Mr Weasley getting attacked which came true, he keeps messing things up with Cho, then he has to have special lessons with Professor Snape to help him stop with the dreams, Professor Umbridge kicks him and the twins off the Quidditch team and she later finds out about the D.A which ends up with Dumbledore being fired and going on the run as well as having to deal with ten escaped Death Eaters from Azkaban and the new dream about a door and his God Father being tortured.

          This is one of my favourite film of the series because of the introduction of Luna who is awesome and Bellatrix who I like too.

          This story has a sad ending R.I.P Sirius but at least Dumbledore gets his job back as Headmaster and the world finally hear the truth about Voldemort’s return and the world realises that Dumbledore is not crazy like the Ministry of Magic have been claiming.

Review - Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J. K. Rowling

Synopsis: Harry Potter is midway through his training as a wizard and his coming of age. Harry wants to get away from the pernicious Dursleys and go to the International Quidditch Cup. He wants to find out about the mysterious event that's supposed to take place at Hogwarts this year, an event involving two other rival schools of magic, and a competition that hasn't happened for a hundred years. He wants to be a normal, fourteen-year-old wizard. But unfortunately for Harry Potter, he's not normal - even by Wizarding standards. And in his case, different can be deadly.

My Review: Best in the series so far! It starts off with Harry waiting for the Weasley’s to come and get him to take him to watch the International Quidditch cup and when they do turn up they ruin the Dursley’s living room and Harry’s uncle is outraged.

          After watching the game Harry, Hermione and the Weasley’s are celebrating in their tent when chaos outside starts. When Mr Weasley leaves with the older boys to go and help out the Ministry sort the chaos which is being caused by Death Eaters the twins are told to look after Ginny and while all the children are trying to get to safety Ron, Harry and Hermione get separated from the twins and Ginny ending up in the woods, while standing in the woods the Dark Lord’s mark appears in the sky while his followers – the Death Eaters - are causing trouble.

          When they get to Hogwarts Dumbledore announces that Hogwarts plus two rival schools will be competing in the Triwizard Tournament but rules have been put in place to make it safer for students. One of the new rules means that the younger students cannot enter the tournament but somehow Harry’s name gets put into the cup (you have to read the book to see who does it).

          Harry has to battle a dragon and merfolk to get to the final round, the maze. While in the maze Harry and his fellow Hogwarts competitor Cedric make it to the centre of the maze and decide to grab the cup at the same time so that they both win, not knowing that the cup is a portkey that transports them away from Hogwarts and into a cemetery where Wormtail who kills Cedric before bringing back the Dark Lord, Lord Voldemort.

          Once Voldemort is back to full strength he tries to kill Harry who somehow manages to escape him taking Cedric’s body back with him.

          I enjoyed this book as this one seems to be the only one where Harry realistically can get through the challenges.

          The best thing about this book is Hermione acted like a regular teenage girl with a crush rather than the annoying know-it-all like in all the other books.

My Review: At the start when Dominic Underwood asked Mira to join him and Katya to spice up his love life I was a bit unsure of if she should do it or not as I didn't want Dominic to become a jerk guy like Mira's ex but he seemed really nice.

During this relationship Mira starts to fall to Dominic and I was hoping that she would end it so she didn't get hurt but alas she didn't.

When Mira sees Dominic and Katya dressed up arm in arm she gets jealous and I was hoping her best friend and housemate Jenna would convince Mira to call it quits and tell Dominic she couldn't do it as she was falling for him but still she continues much to Jenna's and Dominic's fathers dismay.

I really enjoyed this story especially when it had me feeling sorry for Mira and I loved the ending. This is a great read especially if your looking for something saucy to spice up your day as there are nice clean saucy scenes but not to many.

My Review: The Prisoner of Azkaban was full of mystery, even though I hate Harry I did like the fact that he met his God Father Sirius as he treated Harry better than the Dursley’s ever did, it would have been nice if they could have cleared Sirius’ name so Harry could see Harry more and maybe Harry would not be so miserable all the time.

          In this book I felt sorry for Hagrid because even though Buckbeak was not killed he lost him when Harry and Hermione stole him to save him and Sirius from death.

          I was happy when Harry’s new broom got confiscated to have tests done on it as this was not in the film so we do not know if it was jinxed or not before it got to Harry seeing as Sirius was suspected to have escaped Azkaban because he wanted to kill Harry, he was a fugitive so how was he supposed to be able to by a broom?

J.K. Rowling announced on May 28, 2008 that she was writing a prequel story for English PEN, the writers' association, and the Dyslexia Society. The story, handwritten on a card, would then be auctioned off alongside similar cards from other authors on June 11th, 2008, with the proceeds going to charity. A book of facsimiles was published in August 2008, allowing fans to own and read the story. As of 2009 the story is no longer officially available online.

The story was one of three Harry Potter writing projects undertaken by Rowling after the publication of the final book, along with The Tales of Beedle the Bard and a yet-to-be-published Harry Potter Encyclopedia project.

My Review: This prequel was about James Potter and Sirius Black who are tearing down the streets on an enchanted motorcycle, they get pulled over by the police which is a funny scene.

          This prequel gives great insight into what Harry’s father and God Father were like before Harry was born. I actually enjoyed this story it was better than the books that I have read so far.

          I think if harry had one or both of these people in his life from the start then the Harry Potter series would be so different maybe even better.

          From this prequel you can see where Harry gets his ‘getting into sticky situations’ side from.

My Review: This book was slightly better than the first one as I loved Dobby the House Elf.

          I enjoyed the Weasley kids rescuing Harry, I thought them showing up in a magical car was great and the way that Harry tricked Mr Malfoy into giving Dobby a sock to free him to free him was funny, probably the best part of the book.

          I like Ginny and I was with her when she could not talk to Harry as she was shy and crushing on him as I go all shy and quiet when I’m around someone that I like.

          Most of the time in the book I wanted to punch the Malfoy’s for being evil tools and I wanted to slap Professor Snape silly for being a prat all the time, even though I cannot stand Harry he does not deserve to have one of his teachers being horrible to him when the Dursley’s are horrible to him when he’s at home.

My Review: I love fantasy stories and when I was asked to read this anthology I said yes.

          Some of these stories were better than others and at one point I was going to skip the story I was on and start on the next one but I persevered and read them all even though that particular story did not get better.

          Each of the stories were different which is great. The stories have broken hearts, other mythical creatures, soul mates and more. There were cliff-hangers in some of the stories which does not seem right for an anthology but I do know that some of these are just glimpses into full length novels that are to follow.

My Review: Another free book which series I will not be continuing.

          This is only a prequel so you don’t really get much but it is supposed to make you want to read the series and it failed, for me at least.

          The Darkslayer goes off on a journey to kill the Underlings who are these terrible creatures that will kill anything that gets in their way.

Reading, Loss and Depression

I know this isn't a book related post and I wasn't going to post this but I felt that I should as I want to keep you all informed as to why I have been quiet and to help people who are suffering like I am.

My dad passed away at the beginning of the month. He was my everything. Always there when I needed him and the only one I ever wanted when I was ill. He went into hospital the day before Fathers Day with pneumonia and he was getting better and he came home after two weeks but the pneumonia must not have cleared as that what he died of.

My dad's death has hit me hard, |I might not be showing it on the outside but its been affecting me mentally and emotionally, as well as having to sort through my dads things (which my mum, sister and brother-in-law have mainly done while I babysat my niece and nephew), and having to deal with my older brother calling constantly, I just haven't felt like reading but my dad wouldn't want me to sit and just eat junk and watch T.V, he would want me to keep reading and get ready for when my course starts in October so I am going to start reading again, I haven't decided what I'm going to read yet but I am going to look on my kindle and pick something even if it is less that 100 pages just to get me back into reading again as I don't want to fall further into my hole of depression.

With all that has been going on and with my course starting soon I am not going to reach my Goodreads challenge this year, currently I am on 16/35 making me 6 behind my goal.

Just a quick note: If you are suffering from depression please seek help as you are NOT alone, more people than you know suffer from depression and 90% of those people suffer in silence because they feel that they cannot talk to someone, I would still be suffering even more than I am now if some friends hadn't suggested I go and see my GP and if an old school teacher hadn't have made the call for me to see my GP.

As a mysterious illness sickens the local animals, Ember's battle to save them leads to a startling discovery. She races to prove both the cause of the animals' symptoms and how the man died, but will it be too late?

My Review: I had been waiting for this book since finishing the first one, so much so that I often sent Ms Meyers messages asking when it was going to be out -along with other books in her series- and I was happy when she messaged to tell me the beta was ready.

Man's Best Alibi starts off with Ember wondering where Deanerys is as she has been missing a while. When Deanerys finally comes home she brings Ember a gift, but it's not a gift anyone would want, she brings back a glove with a hand inside.

Obviously Embers curiosity streak kicks in and she asks Nathan and Sheriff Walker if she can go along with them, the search and rescue team and the sent dog to find out where Deanerys found the hand.

This story is quite sad compared to the last one as the body part belonged to Deanerys' owner and a lot of animals end up really sick or dead and its all down to the man who's death is ruled a suicide.

Ember want's to find out if it was a suicide or not as she want's to know if she is going to lose Deanerys.

The plot is good and the characters have progressed since book one.

I loved that Ember got to keep Deanerys  and her relationship progress between Ember and Nathan and I can't wait to see where it leads. I love Mel and Embers friendship especially Mels movie references. I didn't guess who the killer was but when it was revealed I remembered something that had happened previously and I could have kicked myself for not putting it together.

The only thing lacking from this story was there were no flirty scenes with Aunt Becky and the Sheriff, I did love those in book one, so here's hoping to some more Becky and Ben mischief in book three.
