Review - Lady and the Biker by Glenna Maynard

Lady & The Biker (Royal Bastards MC: Charleston, WV #1)Title: Lady and the Biker
Author: Glenna Maynard
Series: N/A
Release Date: February 11th 2020
Format: eBook
Buy it: Amazon
Add it: Goodreads

Synopsis: She’s an angel thrust into the chaos of the devil’s playground.

I’m a Royal Bastard who doesn’t deserve her. She’s too young for me. Too pure and too good. I’m going to ruin her and break her heart. I know it and she knows it and yet neither of us can stay away. I watched Wylla Mae transform from a girl into a lady. She’s forbidden and tempting with her soft curves and big doe eyes. Everything I crave and all that I deny myself until a moment of weakness forces me to break.

An enemy is on the move and when he sets his sights on her, all bets are off. I’ll move heaven and hell to keep her safe in my arms.

My Review: I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.

I liked the story, it is told from two points of view Easton and Wylla Mae.

We first meet Wylla Mae when she is 8 and Easton is made to babysit her while her mother gets herself sorted out. At first East feels sorry for her as her house is a mess - dirty dishes and over flowing bins plus an empty fridge. East isn’t happy about having to babysit her but he soon warms up to her and will do anything to look after her.

The story develops by jumping through years but it gives a little backstory in the first few paragraphs in each new chapter on what happened in those years.

Although Wylla Mae spent two years wanting East it isn’t until she turns 18 and graduates high school that anything happens between them.

At times I thought that it could maybe end after another chapter which told the reader what happened next after they got together but there is still another 50% to go with twists and turns and some highs and lows.

Review - Flashpoint by Tara Ellis and Mike Kraus

Flashpoint (Flashpoint #1)Title: Flashpoint
Author: Tara Ellis and Mike Kraus
Series: Flashpoint
Pages: 162
Release Date: October 9th 2019
Format: Paperback
Buy it: Amazon
Add it: Goodreads

Synopsis: A heart-pounding new series from the #1 best-selling post-apocalyptic author

If your life dissolved in a flash, would you be strong enough to survive?

Half of the earth's population has been wiped out. Impossible to predict or stop, the Gamma Ray Burst tore through the Earth like a bullet, its radiation wave killing hundreds of millions and the aftereffects ensuring the deaths of billions more.

Now, as the world crumbles around them, a ragtag group of survivors make for the only home they know - the small town of Mercy. Spared the worst of the GRB's effects, the town is isolated, safe and self-sufficient - for now. The flash hasn't just decimated the Earth's population, though. It's brought out the worst in many of those who are still alive.

Survival in this new world doesn't just depend on preparedness - it depends on strength.

*****

It's the one disaster no one can plan for. A rogue cosmic event called a Gamma Ray Burst, sending a spike of radiation through the earth like a .50 caliber bullet through a ripe watermelon. It's speculated that such an event hit the Earth at some point in the past, causing a mass extinction event. With two potential sources for a GRB pointed directly at our heads, the chances of another one happening in our lifetime is remote... but still possible.

In Flashpoint, we explore such an event and the havoc it would wreak across the entire planet. From destroying our atmosphere to millions dying from incredibly painful radiation exposure, a GRB would be unpredictable and unavoidable for everyone, rich and poor, prepared and unprepared alike.

Flashpoint is a six-book miniseries-like event, written by Tara Ellis and #1 best-selling post-apocalyptic author Mike Kraus. This thrilling post-apocalyptic survival series will have you second-guessing the very nature of post-apocalyptic disaster scenarios and leave you breathless with every turn of the page.

My Review: For those of you who read my blog will know that I am a huge fan of Tara’s and I’ve read all her books. Tara and I have a really good friendship, so when she told me about Flashpoint I knew I had to read it as I had nothing left of hers to read.

Flashpoint is about a worldwide radiation exposure from a Gamma Ray Burst killing millions and knocking out all technology, electricity, clean water and communication.

The story of the GRB is told by several different people some on their own others with family or someone they just met all trying to get to the town of Mercy as the world around them turns into a free for all. The only problem is some of these people are good others are not so good.

Mercy has lost power and vehicles but the Mayor gets everyone to help out in one way or another wither it being getting water to put out fires or distributing food and essential supplies.

This was a great read and I cannot wait to start on book 2.

Synopsis:  Poppy's life has turned into a nightmare. Mum's new boyfriend is moving in, along with his daughter, Kayleigh - the most popular girl in school. Poppy's dad is never around and appears to be drifting further and further away. And when it seems like things can't get any worse, Poppy becomes the target of the spiteful school bullies. As the vicious online comments and humiliating pranks escalate, with even her friends joining in, it looks like Poppy has no one left to turn to. Particularly suitable for struggling, reluctant or dyslexic readers aged 12+

My Review: I found this one in my local library and I had to read it as it just jumped out to me.

Poppy’s mum and dad have split up and her mum’s new partner and his daughter are moving in and she’s not happy.

Poppy’s mums boyfriend tries to get along with Poppy but she doesn’t want to get to know him and keeps pushing him away and asks her dad if she can go and stay with him, unfortunately her dad doesn’t show up when he was meant to and Poppy’s family get worried when they find a note saying she wasn’t coming home.

I found that I related to Poppy’s story somewhat as my parents broke up at the same age as Poppy and my mum moved her partner in, the only difference is I saw my dad all the time and we were super close and I still don’t get along with my mums partner and it’s been 19ish years.

Review - The Child Bride by Cathy Glass

The Child BrideTitle: The Child Bride
Author: Cathy Glass
Series: N/A
Pages: 336
Release Date: September 25th 2014
Format: Paperback
Buy it: Amazon
Add it: Goodreads
Synopsis: The story of Zeena, a young Asian girl desperate to escape from her family. When 14 -year-old Zeena begs to be taken into care with a non-Asian family, she is clearly petrified. But of what?

Placed in the home of experienced foster carer Cathy and her family, Zeena gradually settles into her new life, but misses her little brothers and sisters terribly. Prevented from having any contact with them by her family who insist she has brought shame and dishonour on the whole community, Zeena tries to see them at school. But when her father and uncle find out, they bundle her into a car and threaten to set fire to her if she makes anymore trouble. Zeena is too frightened to press charges against them despite being offered police protection in a safe house.

Eventually, Cathy discovers the devastating truth from Zeena, and with devastation she believes there is little she can do to help her.

My Review: I don’t normally read this kind of books but I read another book by Cathy Glass and I found this one in my local library so I had to read it.

Cathy Glass writes stories about the children she fosters, these children have all been through something terrible and are all struggling with different things, which can make reading them difficult.

Zeena’s story was truly heart-breaking and she is a remarkable young lady who had been through hell by the hands of her own family. Zeena was 14 and married off to a man so much older than her so that he could come to England. It is so horrible to hear that things like this still happen today in England.

I'm glad that Zeena was able to get herself help by putting herself into care and finally tell the whole story of her abuse and I hope that other children who are in the same situation have the same courage she had to do something about it.

I like that you can go online and see how the children that Cathy Glass has looked after.

My Review: This is just a review of The Council of Seven by Alice La Roux

This anthology piece for The Dark Kingdom is based on Snow White. It is dark and very, very steamy.

The characters are great, the story is great, it kept me reading even if I did have to put it down a few times to recover but there is a satisfying ending.

Review - Stardust by Neil Gaiman

StardustTitle: Stardust
Author: Neil Gaiman
Series: N/A
Pages: 224
Release Date: September 19th 2005
Format: Paperback
Buy it: Amazon
Add it: Goodreads

Synopsis: Stardust is an utterly charming fairy tale in the tradition of The Princess Bride and The Neverending Story. Neil Gaiman, creator of the darkly elegant Sandman comics and author of The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish, tells the story of young Tristran Thorn and his adventures in the land of Faerie. One fateful night, Tristran promises his beloved that he will retrieve a fallen star for her from beyond the Wall that stands between their rural English town (called, appropriately, Wall) and the Faerie realm. No one ever ventures beyond the Wall except to attend an enchanted flea market that is held every nine years (and during which, unbeknownst to him, Tristran was conceived). But Tristran bravely sets out to fetch the fallen star and thus win the hand of his love.

My Review: I found this one in my local library and I had to read it as I enjoyed the movie.

I might be 32 but love fairy tales and like to read them whenever I get the chance, this book only took me a few hours to read as I did not want to put it down where normally a book this size would take me 2 days to read.

The story is an easy read but the characters and everything else have so much depth to them that you get to escape into a new world.

The story is about a boy Tristran, a witch and some brothers in search of a fallen star all for different reasons. Tristran wants the star to give to Victoria a girl he likes so she will marry him, the witch wants it for herself and her sisters so they can become young again and the brothers are after the star because she has an amulet that their father told them one of them needed to become the next King.

Most of the story takes place in the Village of Faerie just beyond the town of Wall, the residents of Wall only ever cross into Faerie once every few years for the fair and Tristran’s father went when he was a young man and met a nice girl and this resulted in Tristran.

Tristran ends up finding the star and realises that it is actually a human girl named Yvaine who does not want anything to do with Tristran she even calls him an idiot.

Will Tristran get Victoria the star? Will the Witch find her and kill her or will one of the brothers find her and get the amulet back so he can become king?

Review - The Vamps: Our Story by The Vamps

The Vamps: Our Story: 100% OfficialTitle: The Vamps: Our Story
Author: The Vamps
Series: N/A
Pages: 210
Release Date: October 20th 2016
Format: Hardback
Buy it: Amazon
Add it: Goodreads

Synopsis: Since forming on YouTube in 2012, The Vamps have become one of the biggest bands in the UK. They have travelled the world with massive arena tours, sold hundreds of thousands of records, and gained legions of amazing and devoted fans. They have gone from schoolboys to superstardom in just a few years, and for the first time Connor, Brad, Tristan and James tell their story. From life on the road to dealing with their new-found fame, nothing is off-limits.

Featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes photography, this is a fully-illustrated joint autobiography: the perfect book for any Vamps fan.

My Review: This is one of the books I got from my library.
I enjoyed reading about The Vamps as I love their music so some people might not like the book as they do not listen to their music but it was nice seeing their opinions about everything in their own words.

The Vamps’ story is told in separate parts, how they became The Vamps, then a separate chapter for each member of the band about themselves and how they enjoyed being in the band and then a summery chapter on where they are now and what they want next.

They talk about touring, recording, becoming friends and how much they get along with the people who look after them and their record label.

Review - Web of Lies by Various Authors

Web of LiesTitle: Web of Lies
Author: Various Authors
Series: N/A
Release Date: January 4th 2020
Format: eBook
Buy it: Amazon
Add it: Goodreads

Synopsis: Lust.
Deception.
Admiration.
Love.

The four things all of our characters have in common. They'll do anything for love, including lying to the person they're with.
In this anthology you'll see a wide range of stories written by multiple authors.

Take a dive in to see the lengths they'll go to keep their happiness aflame.

My Review:
All the stories revolve around the theme of someone telling lies or someone being lied to. I enjoyed this anthology, some of the stories ended on cliffhangers, a couple of them ended just as I was getting into them which was annoying lol I hate cliffhangers.

I would really like to read more of Raven by A.C. Williams as it ended too soon.

The Thong Diaries by Taylor Dawn had a satisfying ending that I kinda guessed at but I would love to read more about these characters.

Elizabeth York’s Little White Lies was really good and it would have been nice to have another chapter or two.

Summer at the Cipriani by Alice La Roux was great but I need more, I need to know what happens next.

Overall I loved each story but these four were my favourite.
