My Review: This chapter in the Samantha Wolf series see’s Sam, Ally, Cassy, John, Hunter and Lisa visiting a campground in Sanctuary.

This mystery is a crossover with Ms Ellis’ Cozy Mystery series so we see characters from that series in this one also. We meet main characters Ember, Mel and Nathan.

Sam and her friends are holidaying in Sanctuary and just happen to stumble upon a mystery after meeting a Professor who is working on an archaeological dig in the campgrounds surrounding woods after he uncovered an effigy.

While visiting the dig a local shows up and tells the kids about a legend which peaks Sam’s interest but she doesn’t want to get into trouble so she tried to forget about it.

The group invited over the Professor and his students for a camp fire where Hunter reads a story from the book Sam picked up from town and Sam reads a small paragraph to Ally from an interesting chapter while everyone is discussing the effigy, the next morning Sam cannot find the book.

The next day while on a hike Cassy spots two mean ducking into the woods off a small trail so Sam follows them and confirms to Ally and Cassy that she had seen them in the town the day they arrived in Sanctuary.

Surprisingly John and Cassy encourage Sam to continue to investigate the mystery instead of telling her to drop it. Sam is happy that they are with her but she doesn’t want to get into trouble with Lisa.

While at the towns rodeo Sam see’s Malory one of the dig students and she John and Ally follow her and almost get hurt by a bucking horse luckily John pushed the girls out of the way and Ember shows up and is able to stop the horse.

While off for a shower that night the girls see Malory go into the woods so they decide to follow her and they end up on the trail that they saw the two men go down, while watching they see Malory being taken by the men and as they are about to leave to get help Rocky runs off so Sam and Ally go after Rocky while Cassy runs back to camp to get help.

Although Sam and Ally try not to get caught they end up being caught and threatened along with Malory and the local man. Luckily Nathan and the sheriff come to their rescue just in time.

I really enjoyed this crossover and I am hoping for another crossover but mainly a Cozy Mystery one instead of Samantha Wolf but with an appearance from Sam, Ally and the gang.

My Review: Once again Ember finds herself solving a mystery; this one is ‘the mystery of the missing animals’. All the animals that seem to go missing are valuable pets.

          I love Ember and Mel’s little chit-chats and how well they get along after only knowing each other for a short time.

          As well as trying to solve a mystery Ember is helping her Aunt Becky and the Mayor with their towns Christmas dinner and building her budding relationship with the sexy Nathan.

          This story nearly had me crying because while solving the mystery Ember finds out how her father died and who did it and it all started with the grumpy old vet assistant bringing in her poorly cat.

Once again this story will have you flipping pages so you can find out who the culprit is. I never suspected the culprit but this time I was closer than in the last two books to getting it right.

All I can say is Tara bring on book 4.

Review - Man's Best Alibi by Tara Meyers

As a mysterious illness sickens the local animals, Ember's battle to save them leads to a startling discovery. She races to prove both the cause of the animals' symptoms and how the man died, but will it be too late?

My Review: I had been waiting for this book since finishing the first one, so much so that I often sent Ms Meyers messages asking when it was going to be out -along with other books in her series- and I was happy when she messaged to tell me the beta was ready.

Man's Best Alibi starts off with Ember wondering where Deanerys is as she has been missing a while. When Deanerys finally comes home she brings Ember a gift, but it's not a gift anyone would want, she brings back a glove with a hand inside.

Obviously Embers curiosity streak kicks in and she asks Nathan and Sheriff Walker if she can go along with them, the search and rescue team and the sent dog to find out where Deanerys found the hand.

This story is quite sad compared to the last one as the body part belonged to Deanerys' owner and a lot of animals end up really sick or dead and its all down to the man who's death is ruled a suicide.

Ember want's to find out if it was a suicide or not as she want's to know if she is going to lose Deanerys.

The plot is good and the characters have progressed since book one.

I loved that Ember got to keep Deanerys  and her relationship progress between Ember and Nathan and I can't wait to see where it leads. I love Mel and Embers friendship especially Mels movie references. I didn't guess who the killer was but when it was revealed I remembered something that had happened previously and I could have kicked myself for not putting it together.

The only thing lacking from this story was there were no flirty scenes with Aunt Becky and the Sheriff, I did love those in book one, so here's hoping to some more Becky and Ben mischief in book three.

So I hardly read anything in May which means I am now 2 books behind schedule on completing my Goodreads challenge of 35 books.

I need to read 23 more this year to finish the challenge which is on average 3 books a month to complete the challenge but I need to read 4 books this month to catch up.

In May I planned on reading 5 books a month, 1 off my shelf, 1 reread and 3 from my kindle but I am now just going to read 3 a month (4 this month so I can complete my challenge).

My Review: Ember Burns is the new vet in her home town of Sanctuary, she took over the practice from Dr Bernie Chambers who has recently retired and is planning on moving to Florida.

Ember left Sanctuary ten years ago to go to veterinary school to study to become a vet and to get away from the small town and she ended up staying away, but when her mother dies she comes back for the funeral and with a little push from her Aunt Becky she decides to stay.

After paying off all the funeral bills and her school fees Aunt Becky encourages her to take Dr Chambers offer at buying the clinic which she does instead of returning to her internship.

While Ember is setting up the clinic ready to be opened her Aunt drops by with Ember's three cousins, 14 year old Elizabeth and her ten year old twin Bret and Tim. Ember's Aunt runs an animal rescue centre and she takes in some of the rescue animals as well as placing them in forever homes, as well as bringing her children Becky bring a cute labradoodle that Becky and her children try to convince Ember to take in but Ember doesn't think that its a good idea as she doesn't believe she has the time to look after the dog and get her clinic ready for opening but she takes her in and names her Daenerys.

While Aunt Becky is at the clinic she gets a distressing call from Bonnie Hathaway who own's a farm with her husband and they have recently taken in a horse that Becky had rescued, this call ends up with Ember getting her first client.

While out at Hathaway Farm Ember attends to the distressed horse and once they have the horse somewhat settled a phone ring's from inside the barn and they find Tom lying dead in the stall.

Ember and Daenerys go on hikes together and she meets Nathan a park ranger who seems to have a thing for her and she also goes on dates with a new guy in town Sean. I liked these two guys Nathan seemed lovely and Sean was kind of weird with his hot and cold attitude with Ember but I just figured he was just hung up on his ex wife.

Ember has to try and convince the sheriff and everyone else that the horse didn't kill Tom and while doing so she puts herself in danger.

I really loved this story and I spent most of my time reading it trying to figure out what was going to happen next and who the murderer was but each time I guessed wrong. I was convinced from the start that it was one guy but I was wrong it was a total shock that I never guessed it right before the end of the book which in my opinion makes it a great murder mystery story.

I loved Ember's Aunt Becky she seems like a feisty woman and she has the sheriff wrapped around her little finger, anything she want's him to do he does. Maybe this is a hint at a future fling even though Becky is currently married. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Excerpt Ember jerked awake, springing up in her bed and blinking at the thick darkness. For a moment, she wasn’t sure where she was, and then the past month’s events came rushing back. My Review: This is the first book in the Chris Echo Files series and it’s a none stop action packed mystery that kept me hooked from the start even with the two different PoV’s.

Chris Echo is on a forced break from being a profiler for the CSI after having to shoot a murderer what broke into her home after she had been hunting him for a while.

After getting to the island where there’s no WIFI or phone reception, Chris goes on a hike on one of the islands trails with one of the resort employees. The trail reminds her of the trail near her home that she runs on.

At lunch all the resort guests learn that the beautiful island is about to be hit by a hurricane so the resort owners suggest that everyone stay’s in the main house instead of their cabin which is a good suggestion when the hurricane gets upgraded to a catagory 2 and hits the island.

While the guests are taking shelter in the main house Kyle an undercover agent tried to get the guerrillas to call off their smuggling deal because of the storm but the leader doesn’t want to listen to Kyle. Kyle and the guerrillas get stranded on the boat which ends up getting capsized and they wash up on the resort beach.

The leader takes the guests hostage in the main house where Chris and Kyle who don’t know each other’s real jobs try to keep everyone safe and alive after the mob leader shoots one of the guest.

After Kyle is made to help another mob member search the guest cabins Kyle finds out who Chris really is and he keeps it secret and manages to get Chris to help him keep everyone safe and take down the guerrillas.

Echo of Fear is great and I am looking forward to reading more in this series.

Synopsis: Criminal profiler, Chris Echo, has worked hard to become one of the elite members of Seattle's police department. Nothing, not even her personal life, gets in the way of her pursuits to track down ruthless killers. With a serial murderer on the loose, Chris struggles to find the connections necessary to close in on a suspect. While taking risks to force the answers, she unexpectedly places herself in the path of her worst nightmare. 

A Distant Echo is a short story of around 10,000 words and takes the average reader one to one-and-a-half hours to read. It is a lead-in to a new, thrilling crime series called The Chris Echo Mysteries. 

My Review: This is Tara Meyers first story and it is just a taste of her new upcoming series. 

A Distant Echo is about a Criminal Profiler who is working on a case about a woman who was murdered and the murdered woman's murder is similar to two other women's murders and where they were dumped but her boss and team mates thinks she is getting to involved in the case and they decide to take her off it and give her another case to work on but Chris Echo cannot let the case go and she goes to the house of the guy who she believes is the murderer to stake out his house and take pictures.

Later that night when she gets home she realizes something while she is running, she realizes that for the places that the women were dumped are places that would need passes to be able to get into the areas so she goes home and when she gets there she is attacked by the guy she was staking out and as he's about to kill her two Chris' work mate turns up and see's whats going on.

This was a nice short story and I hope that the novel that is to follow is just as good as the teaser as I want to know what is going to happen next.
