Books Read in 2021

So 2021 was just as bad a year as 2020 because of COVID-19 and because of me being ill but I was able to surpass my goal of reading 40 books and I read 46. A lot of my reads in 2021 were rereads due to not being able to go to the library and me not wanting to buy more books until I had read the ones I already own.

My Review: This short novella tells us about Jule's life after he has joined the NYC Barda. at first he is still pining after Kate who he knows that he cannot have and living in her hometown isn't helping him as much as he thought it would.

He decides to go on his first walk with the NYC Barda and while he is on his first walk looking for Numa he realizes how different it is to France because there are more Barda walking the streets at one time than there is in France but there are many more Barda in NYC compared to those in France.

While he is on his walk he meets Ava and he forgets all about Kate and is now only interested in her, the only problem is there is a war coming and he needs Kate's help to keep Ava save so that he doesn't lose her too because she is just as special as Kate.

The Revenant series have gotten better with each book and I am really going to miss the characters.

Review - If I Should Die by Amy Plum

My Review: If I Should Die was the 3rd and final installment in Amy Plum's Revenants series. It was jam packed with anger, sadness and loads of action.

The story starts where the last one ended, Kate distraught, Vincent dead and in the hands of Violette a girl whom the Barda believed and treated as one of their own because they believed that Vincent was the Champion.

Throughout the story we see Kate grieving for her lost love, somehow Kate manages to be able to hear Vincent. Kate's grandmother finds out all about the Revenants and like her husband she wants Kate to stay away from Frances Barda, until Kate and her sister go off wandering and almost get killed by Violette's men, forcing Kate's grandmother to make a deal with JB so that Kate and her family will have around the clock Revenant guards to keep them safe from the Numa.

During this final book - without revealing everything - Kate, her grandfather and Jules travel to America to try and get Vincent back and after they manage that something BIG happens to Kate which means that she gets to meet many new Revenats from across the world as well as some old Revenants that come back into her life and one leaving her life.

My Review: This short novella is about Jules who is Vincent's best friend and fellow Revenant and it is about his feelings for Kate who is his best friends girlfriend.

Jules loves Kate and he can't stop thinking about her. Jules is forced to watch his best friend fall in love with the girl he loves but he doesn't make a move on her even if he does spend a lot of time flirting with Kate who just laughs it off.

The short novella tells the reader about Jules' struggle with his feelings for Kate and his struggle to choose between his best friend and the girl he love.

I hope that this doesn't mean that Jules ends up moving away or making a move on Kate if Vincent is really dead.

My Review: I loved this book more than the first but I honestly cried at the end R.I.P Vincent.

Kate and Vincent spent the entire book searching for a way so that they can be together without him having to die saving the lives of innocent, good people.

Vincent's way of staying alive to be with Kate is a dangerous way and makes him look really ill and Kate doesn't like it so she searches threw books and her grandfathers antique place and she finds a book that she thinks might help Vincent resist the urge to die. After finding this book Kate's grandfathers place gets burgled.

I cannot say that I can relate to Kate or Vincent but I do feel for them both. Vincent clearly loves Kate as he is willing to get himself killed to protect her. They make the perfect couple and no one can tear them apart long but the Norma kill Vincent and took his body away after killing him.

I cannot wait to get started on the next book I want to know if Kate, Jules, Charlotte and the rest of Vincent's Revenant family and friends can get Vincent back in time otherwise he will be gone forever :'(.

I loved the characters, I loved the plot and I love Kate and Vincent's relationship with Kate, I kind of hope that Charles isn't in the next book as he really acts like an idiot towards Kate, he doesn't consider her a part of their family even though she killed their enemy the head of the Norma.

I hope that Vincent is safe and well or I will probably end up blubbing most of the way through book 3, I also hope that if Vincent is safe and well that they find a way for Kate and Vincent can live happily ever after and that no harm comes to any of Kate's family or to any of the Revenant's well maybe Charles can die so that Kate will be accepted again by Vincent's family.

Challenging Myself

I have decided that for the next 18 weeks left in 2014, I am going to read a book a week now that all my boyfriends wrestling shows have finished.

This idea came from Jessica Brody's self book in a day challenge and it is so I can get as close to my goodreads challenge as possible as I am not going to beat it as I need to read 21, maybe I will be able to read a book in less than a week and be able to sneak another in but we will see.

I will be starting my challenge on Monday September 1st as I am giving myself the weekend to finish reading the last few chapters of Jessica Brody's Unforgotten.

My Interview with Amy Plum

I read Die For Me late 2013 and I wanted to know where Amy Plum got her idea for the Revenant series from and what she had coming up in 2014 and she agreed to answer 5 questions for the blog.

      

1)  I love the idea of Revenants because I've never seen anything like them in any other books. Where did you get the idea from?

When I decided to write a paranormal romance, I had no idea what type of supernatural creature I wanted to use. I actually made a list with vampires, werewolves, mummies, unicorns...everything I could think of. And none really appealed to me. So I mixed two beings: gods and zombies. I actually called revenants "zombies" in the first draft of the book, but once Kate and Vincent kissed decided I had to change it. I used the French word "revenant," which means "spirit that comes back for a purpose." And little by little, the rules and mythology started falling into place.

2)  So far there are three books in the series will there be more in the series or do you plan on doing a spin-off or is it over?

There are actually four books in the series. I added a novella called "DIE FOR HER," which is written from Jules's point of view. It is only available by eBook, but my readers seem to really love it. As for writing more revenant books, I am considering the idea. Why not? :)

3)  When naming your characters do you give thought to the actual meaning of the names?

Some of the names I actually researched. I wanted them to be era-appropriate. So for Ambrose, I looked at African American soldiers in WWII and took his name from the list. Same for Jean-Baptiste - I put his name together from a list of Napoleon's officers. Jules was a common name around the turn of the century. Kate and Vincent were just off the top of my head. Charlotte and Charles seemed like names someone would give their twins in the beginning of the 20th century. Georgia is just Georgia. She couldn't be anything else. And some of the minor characters I named after friends - just to make them happy! :)

4)  What do you find the hardest part of a book to write?

That's a difficult question. I guess it would be the middle. The beginning's so exciting, and I always get fired up when I get to the end. But getting over the hump I suppose is the hardest part. Knowing that there is still so much to be resolved.

5)  What can fans of your work look forward to in 2014?

2014 is a BIG year for me, because the first book in my JUNEAU series comes out: AFTER THE END (May 2014). Also, the U.S. paperback version of IF I SHOULD DIE will be released in April, and that will include (in the extras) an epilogue written by Gaspard five years after the end of the book. I hope everyone enjoys (and agrees) with what happens to our Parisian characters!
